Gyokuro

Who is Gyokuro?

I am Gyokuro (玉露) — a pen name, like the finest shade-grown Japanese green tea. Patient, refined, and worth the wait.

I have spent 30 years in Japan’s institutional investment industry. I currently run a PIPE advisory firm in Tokyo, working with companies navigating capital markets, governance reform, and shareholder engagement.

I started this site because I believe the structural transformation happening in Japanese equities is one of the most compelling investment stories in the world right now — and most overseas investors are missing it.

Why the pen name?

The analysis should speak for itself. I have no interest in building a personal brand. What matters is whether the thesis is right, the data are accurate, and the insights are useful.

What this site is — and isn’t

This site carries no advertising, no affiliate links, and no sponsored content. The recommendations you read here — whether about brokers, ETFs, or investment approaches — are genuine and based solely on my professional judgement.

I write because I enjoy it, and because I think there is a gap in English-language coverage of Japanese markets. If you find the content valuable, you can support the site here.

This site is not investment advice. I share my views and analysis, but I am not your financial adviser. Every investment involves risk. Please do your own research and consult a qualified professional before making investment decisions.

The tea field image on this site is from a Japanese tea plantation. Gyokuro tea leaves are shade-grown for at least 20 days before harvest, developing a deep umami flavour that rewards patience — not unlike investing in Japan’s structural transformation.
